This Summer the ITF Seafarers’ Trust ‘Life At Sea’ Photo Exhibition is on display at the International Maritime Organisation during the 110th session of Maritime Safety Committee, and the 134th session of the IMO Council London in June and July where delegates can enjoy this spectacular exhibition of photos taken by seafarers as they attend the meetings.
The images capture all aspects of life at sea from the unique perspective of the crews who work onboard these ships every day. The photos will remain on display until 25 of July.
The exhibition is drawn from previous submissions to the annual ITF Seafarers’ Trust Photo Competition ‘Life At Sea’ which is again open for submissions from the Day of the Seafarer on 25 June until 15 August at www.seafarerstrust.org/life-sea.
The photo competition which was launched at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 now forms the basis of a digital archive documenting seafarers’ experience with over 10,000 images www.lifeatsea.co.uk. The photos have been exhibited in museums and non-governmental organisations worldwide and have been vital to raise awareness of the critical role of seafarers in the global economy.
Natasha Brown, IMO Head Media and Communications Office and judge of the Life At Sea 2025 photography competition, said "Seafarers are at the heart of everything IMO does. It is an honour and privilege to host these amazing photos here are IMO Headquarters, allowing delegates to see and feel what life is like onboard - and inform their decision-making."
Katie Higginbottom, Head of the ITF Seafarers’ Trust added “The photo competition is the highlight of our year; reviewing the images and reading the captions – which can be quite long essays – gives us an invaluable insight into contemporary life on board. We are delighted to bring this lived experience of seafarers into the spaces where decisions are made on maritime regulation as a reminder to delegates of the people whose lives they will affect.”
